Repetition

It all began in a garden

So peaceful and serene,

The most beautiful place

You have never seen.

Apple trees and animals

All put there by God,

No one else had been there –

A place where no man had trod.

Then came a serpent,

So evil and vile –

It tried to trick Woman

With cunning and guile.

Woman couldn’t resist,

She just couldn’t turn away –

But God was watching her,

Looking down in dismay.

Man said to her

“Let’s hide”,

But the deed had been done,

This was the day purity died.

Since that day,

Free will has taken rein,

But it’s our own decision…

There’s no one else to blame.

There is no hiding,

No running from God –

No more places around

Where no man has trod.

Free will has taken us

From bad to worse, and yet…

When the darkness falls upon us

We think not to fret.

We cast blame on others,

We turn a deaf ear –

We watch the world crumble around us

As we merely watch in fear.

Some days we see the light,

Some days we rejoice –

Some days we pray to God,

Some days we hear his voice.

Some people fight for freedom,

Some people simply protest –

Some people don’t realize

What is the earthly quest.

The quest, in my eyes, at least

Is quite a simple one –

To live today to make certain

That past misdeeds are undone.

People are dying

In the world today,

Fighting and suffering –

And going astray.

Misshapen hearts

Are following the past,

Leading the future

Into oblivion aghast.

Try as we might,

We’ll never see again –

That garden in the beginning

So peaceful and serene.
